Tilicia Haridat was born and raised in the small, family-owned and operated local newspaper, The New Era. She began her career at The New Era as a summer intern while attending college at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She later earned her degree in Journalism and Mass Media Studies from UNCG and was hired full-time by The New Era upon graduation. After working for The New Era for over 10 years, she became a freelance writer and editor while pursuing her Master's Degree in Public Relations from Elon University
